Local Bus Consultation Flawed    10 March, 2016

Bus consultation flawed

Just before the closure of Surrey County Council’s latest consultation on bus services, we have discovered that the information provided about the options for the 516 service via Box Hill and Headley is seriously incorrect.

The current timetable provides an irregular service - hourly between about 11am and 3pm and two-hourly outside that period.  The consultation offered two options: a “two-hourly” service over a slightly reduced route; or an “hourly service” over a much-reduced route no longer serving Epsom and the general hospital.  In Headley, the Parish Council has been consulting residents and bus users based on this information and many submissions will already have been made.

A week before the end of the consultation process we have found out that the so-called “hourly service” is actually the current schedule which offers 9 buses a day, when a full hourly service would offer 12. Whereas a genuinely hourly service might have provided some compensation for a reduced route, this option does not.

It is clear that this consultation has been carried out on a false prospectus and the findings cannot be considered valid. Surrey needs to re-run the consultation with correct information for residents to comment on.

Although the consultation period ended on 14th March there is still time to send your comments before the first meetings take place on 13th & 19th April.
